Starlink can give Internet in moving cars across the US

Starlink satellite Internet service has been approved by the US government for use on moving vehicles, ships, and planes. The FCC on Thursday approved SpaceX’s proposal to operate ESIMs (Earth Stations in Motion) in the United States for both consumers and businesses. The FCC also granted Kepler Communications’ request to operate ESIMs on ships. As of now, ships in US territorial waters and international waters can use Starlink or Kepler.

New '2D' materials have promising applications, say scientists

Since the first successful preparation of graphene by mechanical exfoliation from graphite crystals in 2004, 2D materials have attracted dramatic attention due to their extraordinary physical properties (ultralow weight, high Young’s modulus, and high strength) and electrical properties compared with conventional bulk materials. Graphene, with a Young’s modulus of 1 TPa, is the most researched 2D material. Studies suggest that graphene in polymer matrices can boost composites’ mechanical characteristics. Graphene’s

Researchers say hybrid plants can help with climate change and food security

Food security throughout the world may benefit greatly from hybrid agricultural and horticulture crops. Compared to non-hybrid cultivars, hybrids provide better yields and are frequently more resistant to disease and climatic stress. However, hybrid variants aren’t accessible for all crops. Global food security may benefit from the use of horticultural and hybrid crops. These hybrid cultivars produce more with a given acreage and are more resistant to pests and disease

Researchers have demonstrated that a new fabric can convert human movement into electrical current

Scientists at Nanyang Technological University have invented a novel waterproof and stretchy fabric that transforms energy generated by bodily movement into electrical energy. Nanyang Technological University. Mechanical energy is converted to electrical energy by pressing or squashing a polymer component of the cloth. Flexible, robust, and waterproof properties are all provided by a base layer of spandex combined with a rubber-like substance. Proof-of-concept testing of the fabric in Advanced Materials

Where to begin with artificial intelligence and machine learning

Has machine learning ever seemed like something you’d like to get into but were unsure of where to begin? The term “artificial intelligence” as it is often used these days is, at best, misleading. Artificial intelligence is not intelligent in any manner, but it is artificial. It continues to be one of the most talked-about issues in business and has recently attracted the attention of academics. Over the course of

As the commissioning of the James Webb Space Telescope draws to a close, targets have been outlined

James Webb Space Telescope and its collaborative NASA, ESA, and CSC teams have been working toward completing the six-month-long commissioning phase at Sun-Earth Lagrange point 2 since May. (L2). Now that the observatory’s mirrors have been perfectly aligned, Webb and its team are getting ready for the historic first image to be taken from their telescope. First scientific study objectives for Webb’s operational phase have been disclosed as teams move

Establishing new standards for neutron star interiors

Our ability to grasp the complexities of non-Earthly settings is limited. Astronomers have to deal with this problem all the time. Sometimes it’s only a matter of finding out how well-understood physics relates to severe situations and then comparing the output of those equations to the actual data. Neutron stars, on the other hand, are a remarkable exception to this rule, as the necessary equations become fully intractable and observations

Comcast has postponed data limitations in the Northeastern United States for at least a year

Comcast has announced that it would not implement data limitations in the Northeast US until 2022, offering users in 12 states and a few other places a one-year respite from paying overage costs. A Comcast spokesman told Light Reading that the company has no immediate plans to adopt its data use plan in the Northeast areas until 2022. When questioned about plans for 2023 and beyond, Comcast verified this comment
