PETRONAS and Baker Hughes, an energy technology corporation, inked a Memorandum of Understanding to join forces on operational excellence, technological breakthroughs supporting the energy transition, education, and capability building.
In keeping with PETRONAS’ sustainability mission, the MoU defines a framework in which both companies would combine their knowledge to optimize sustainable energy delivery while using technology and digitalization.
Following a Memorandum of Understanding inked in 2018, which resulted in noteworthy advances in process safety, robotics deployment, and plant digitalization, the signing signifies the continuation of cooperation between the firms.
On the margins of the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition & Conference (ADIPEC), PETRONAS Senior Vice President of Project Delivery and Technology Bacho Pilong and Baker Hughes Executive Vice President, Regions, Alliances & Enterprise Sales Uwem Ukpong signed the MoU.
PETRONAS Head of Group Technical Solutions, Front End Engineering, Saiful Azuan Aziz, and Baker Hughes Services Sales Leader South East and North Asia & PETRONAS Key Account Director, Ali Majeed, both attended the ceremony Alongside others including Datuk Tengku Muhammad Taufik, PETRONAS President and Group CEO; Lorenzo Simonelli, Baker Hughes Chairman and CEO; Adif Zulkifli, PETRONAS Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of Upstream; and Rami Qasem, Baker Hughes Executive Vice President, Digital Solutions.
“At PETRONAS, we are devoted to taking a holistic approach to sustainability, which encompasses four lenses Continued Value Creation, Positive Social Impact, Safeguard the Environment, and Responsible Governance,” said Datuk Tengku Taufik. The Memorandum of Understanding lays out a series of efforts that support these perspectives, with the goal of eventually enabling the delivery of sustainable energy products through the use of technology and digitalization.
“We think that achieving a sustainable future will necessitate everyone’s cooperation, partnership, and engagement. As we continue on this energy transformation journey, we are glad to continue developing our cooperation with a recognized technological partner like Baker Hughes,” Datuk Tengku Taufik added.
On the subject of energy transition, the partnership will support PETRONAS’ efforts to develop low-carbon energy options, particularly in the sectors of carbon capture, hydrogen, utilization, and storage (CCUS), digital solutions, and sustainability and emissions management.
The Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center hosted ADIPEC from November 15 to 18, 2021. ADIPEC is a gathering of energy firms and professionals hosted by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) to interact and explore possibilities that will unlock new value in a transforming energy market.
