Amazon Web Services and IBM will work unanimously to reap the integrated benefits of AWS cloud and IBM open data for the whole industry for IBM Cloud Pak for data to save energy to customers.

This comprehensive solution is built on Red Hat Openshift and will execute on AWS cloud to enhance the ability for consumers to carry workloads in AWS cloud and on-premise.

Innovation, digital technology, and data can help the companies in the energy sector to decarbonize the growing efficiencies. However, in a recent survey, IBM concluded that less than half of oil and gas executive respondents are adopting data to initiate that innovation.

According to IBM, it is because of the growing digitized effort in a proprietary closed system, which also obstructs the potential to integrate and maximize potential value. Thereby, this collaboration between AWS and IBM will focus on augmenting the production of data barriers in the sector.

“Much of the data needed to solve the complex energy challenges, such as superior subsurface decisions, already exists, yet is untapped. This is because one of the greatest values of that data is derived when it can be effectively combined, but usually this data is locked by data residency requirements, legacy applications or proprietary data formats,” said Bill Vass, Vice President, engineering, AWS.

IBM open data is an open-source option for industries adopting the OSDU data foundation for the oil, gas, and energy sector.

OSDU is a vendor-neutral framework and a cross-industry collaboration for companies to help develop a data platform against the energy sector standards. The reason behind the integrated working of IBM and AWS is to serve the growing needs of energy companies today for sustainable alternatives. This collaboration will help with flexible solutions that can accommodate today’s complex challenges and equally adapt as the industry moves forward.

IBM open data for industries is integrated with the IBM cloud pack for efficient data management that can effectively be developed on Red Hat Openshift. Red Hat Openshift is an open structure and Kubernetes platform which is designed to allow companies to execute and operate applications globally.

According to a white paper, the energy sector is struggling with issues regarding lowering greenhouse gases as the demand for affordable energy is continuously rising. Energy companies require innovative solutions to drive efficiency, free up capital, and simultaneously invest in exploring the more sustainable energy sources for the future.

By integrating the advanced cloud infrastructure of AWS cloud services, this platform will help companies lower the cost, resources, and time required to level up the data to extract insights, effectively streamline the operation, and make a smooth transition to sustainable energy generation.
