The report claimed that penetration of handsets in India crossed 43% last year dropping 1% from a year before that when it stood at 44%. Smartphone and mobile phone shipment of India crossed 288 Million units in 2017 n comparison to 249 Million in 2016. In addition to this, shipment of handset in India crossed 124 Million in 2017 where earlier it was 109 Million in 2016.
Samsung came up as the worldwide leader in terms of handset shipments where last year it clocked 317.7 Million shipments, chased by Huawei with 154.2 Million and Apple with 215.8 Million. The 3 firms took a market share of 22%, 11%, and 15% respectively. Micromax, the Indian brand, made its place in the leading 30 global handset companies in 2017crossing shipment of 6.6 Million.
CLSA has assumed that the Chinese handset companies might post shipment of 698 Million by the end of 2020 where in 2017 they showed a record of 620 Million. In addition to this, by the end of 2020 India is anticipated to witness growth of 14 Million in handsets.
When it comes to worldwide trends in terms of acceptance of smartphone functions, CLSA claimed that the penetration of dual camera elevated to 17% in 2017 from 5% in 2016. In the same manner, penetration of fingerprint sensor elevated to 59% in 2017 from 43% in 2016, penetration of LTE augmented to 91% in 2017 from 82% in 2016, and penetration of NFC increased to 38% in 2017 from 36% in 2016.
