It was not an unnatural step to start a Solar and Renewable Energy Company for BS Yadav, who was the director of the Haryana Renewable Energy Development Agency. Having spent more than 30 years in Renewable Energy, Energy Conservation, Project Planning, he finally chose the path of entrepreneurship. In May 2013, together with Narendra Kumar, Yadav laid the foundations of Ultimate Sun Systems. He met Narendra on a project site. Yadav said, “The idea behind making the company was that through customized and sophisticated and cost-effective solutions, Solar Technology should help India grow on the path of pollution-free renewable energy.”

It offers engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) and consultation services for power utilities in addition to the startup, residential, commercial, industrial units. The start-up co-founder and managing director Yadav said, “Our aim was to provide solutions for the installation of solar projects, which would bring out the best results.” The startup, Ultimate Sun Systems, which was started with an investment of Rs. 75 Lakh is growing rapidly. Working with the staff of 35 people in 2016–2017, it recorded an income of Rs 20.2 Crore.

Its headquarters are based in Gurugram. Its offices are also in some major cities such as Punjab, Karnataka, Mumbai, and Tamil Nadu. It had to face many difficulties in increasing the business. Yadav said, “Since we were new, proving our credentials, getting a loan was a big challenge. The second major constraint was linked qualification criteria, that is, the work experience and financial strength. We were weak on both fronts. Although the company initially acquired small projects and completed them time to time, such obstacles were dwarfed. This track record helped him achieve bigger projects.

Ultimate Sun Systems has completed more than 35 projects. Its major corporate clients include NHK Springs, DLF, Indian Oil, and DCM Shriram. In 2017, India Solar Week Awards honored it as Solar PV EPC Company. It is included in the panel of several government agencies like Solar Energy Corporation of India, Indraprastha Power Generation Company, Himachal Pradesh Energy Development Authority, and Punjab Energy Development Agency.

Ultimate Sun Systems is facing challenges such as managing costs without compromising on the benefits of solar power, lack of awareness among the people and the quality of service.

Yadav said, “Power distributors actually think solar-based developers are a threat to themselves. They do not get support from them. Apart from this, growth is not affected by the incentives of the Center and the states.”
